Hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière encompasses the Academic hospital (1,800 beds for inpatients, 1,700 medical employers, 6,300 non-medical staff), the Medical Faculty of the Pierre et Marie Curie University (31,000 students/year, 2007 Academic ranking of Shangai university: 1th rank University in France & 6th rank in Europe), and several INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale) research units (Inserm is a French public organism dedicated to medical research and health). The Institute of Cardiology was created in a new building within the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in 2002, comprising the Medical Cardiology Department, the Cardiovascular surgery department and the Intensive Care Departement. This Cardiovascular structure is headed by Prof. Michel Komajda. The National Reference Centre for hereditary cardiac diseases headed by P. Charron, and INSERM UMR 956 headed by Stéphane Hatem are also part of ICAN. Our group has access to various platforms.
